Meditation classes with teachings from Buddhism
These classes teach a Buddhist meditation called Calm Abiding (Shamatha). It is a gentle technique that allows us to develop calmness, stability and a peaceful state of mind.
This introductory meditation class comprises a short session of a meditation followed by a concise talk about a particular aspect of Buddhism. All of the Buddha’s teachings were given to help relieve suffering (our own and that of others) through developing our natural qualities of wisdom and compassion. They are as applicable today as ever because the way our hearts and minds work has not changed.
Each class begins with a simple introduction to the practice followed by two 10 to 15 minute sessions. There’s time in-between sessions to ask questions about the practice or about meditation and Buddhism generally.
This is a very relaxed and open format for those wanting to learn how to meditate.
