Milarepa: Poet, Visionary, Meditation Master
Milarepa (1040-1123) is famed as the most eminent yogin of the Karma Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism and one of the greatest examples of the diligence and courage needed on the spiritual path.
With Buddhist Meditation Master and Scholar, Lama Jampa Thaye.
Milarepa was born in Gungthang in Southern Tibet in 1040 and had to rise above a deluge of difficulties and obstacles from his early life, to become the student of the great master Marpa at the age of 38. Through his extraordinary effort he obtained the level of Buddhahood in his very lifetime.
Milarepa went on to transmit his realisation to his disciples not only in the formal manner of initiations and instructions but also through the medium of poetic composition and song, continuing a great Indian tradition.
Lama Jampa Thaye, who is a meditation master of the Sakya and Karma Kagyu traditions will speak about the life of Jetsun Milarepa, an enormously significant and accomplished master of the Kagyu tradition of Tibetan Buddhism, and his significance today.
The evening will be followed by an opportunity for Q&A and refreshments. No charge; suggested donation £10.
