Dechen London is an exciting event space and a unique store offering specialist books and exclusive prints not available elsewhere in London. It’s an oasis of calm in the vibrant, bustling area of Notting Hill; an ideal place to have a coffee, relax and learn to read and meditate the traditional way, based on literature of tried and tested methods of calming the mind.
Dechen is an international organisation promoting the traditional practice and teachings of the Sakya and Karma Kagyu lineages of Tibetan Buddhism, founded by Lama Jampa Thaye, under the spiritual authority of Karma Thinley Rinpoche. Dechen runs centres, groups, bookshops and retreat centres throughout the UK and worldwide, offering a range of classes, courses and other activities.
Founded by Lama Jampa Thaye
Lama Jampa Thaye is a scholar and meditation master trained in the Sakya and Karma Kagyu traditions of Buddhism. He is authorised as a lama by his two main teachers, Karma Thinley Rinpoche and His Holiness Sakya Trizin, and has been training students in all aspects of the Buddhist path since 1988.In 1974 H.H. the Sixteenth Gyalwa Karmapa appointed Lama Jampa to the Karma Kagyu Trust (UK) and and H.H. Karmapa Thaye Dorje has now appointed him as a member of the international teaching faculty of the Karmapa International Buddhist Institute in Delhi, (KIBI). Lama Jampa was born on Bolton, Lancashire and currently lives in London with his family.
Lama Jampa has founded major Buddhist centres in the UK – in Manchester, Bristol and Harrogate – as well as a retreat centre in Dordogne, France and centres in Los Angeles, USA, Mexico City and Stuttgart, Germany.
